Hello, new member here! I love my Mr. Bento and I've been using it since my aunt bought it for me for last year's birthday, but I hadn't joined any bento communities because, let's be honest, Mr. Bento isn't quite as cute as anything the other communities have got going on.

So I was glad to find you all!

Overview pic:

Morning snack: Babybel cheese with multiseed crackers; almonds and craisins

Lunch part one: Greek whole-grain rice salad.

Lunch part two: Yakisoba stir-fried with spicy miso sauce, garnished with green onions and cherry tomatoes

Afternoon snack: blueberries, almond-flavored ricotta, and raspberries! Red, white and blue in honor of the 4th this Friday.

I tend to do my bento on a weekly, rather than daily basis, so that I use up Sunday for most of the dish prep time then I throw everything into plastic containers and portion it out each day. But I have nearly a years' worth of previous bento posts so I figure I can unload those until I'm caught up here. =)

Yeah, it's tough to make it every morning, so I tend to make a big batch of something on Sundays.

This is my method:

1. I search for recipes or ideas to use that I can make a bunch of, enough to last me all week. I use other recipe sites or bento communities for inspiration. For my main dishes I usually pick stuff like yakisoba, rice or grain-based dishes, soup, etc.

2. I make my grocery list and make sure to include all the ingredients from bento dishes that I don't have on hand.

3. When I get back from grocery shopping, I make my main bento dishes.

4. I store the main bento dishes in large tupperware so that I can easily portion them out into my bento either in the morning, or the night before.

I put up all my pics here, see if that gives you some ideas: http://picasaweb.google.com/tracyolander/BentoLunches#
